Cayenne Pepper

Size

Cayenne pepper, also known as Capsicum annuum, belongs to the Solanaceae family. It grows in a tropical and subtropical climate and comes from a shrub that can grow up to five feet tall with small yellow flowers and fruits that look like pea-sized berries or cherry tomatoes.

As a seasoning it has been used for centuries on many continents around the world. Today it is mostly used in certain cuisines of Asia, South America and the Southwestern United States on dishes such as gumbo soup or chili con carne.
